A love-letter to Kay Hanley.

This is very true.  Although, my obsession with Letters to Cleo started after seeing 10 Things I Hate About You in high school (she mentions seeing Josie and the Pussycats).  Craziness.  The love is still the same.

Feeling good…for now.

I just got back from the Y for my hour long cardio session.  How easy it would have been to stay asleep for another hour instead…BUT I managed to get myself out of bed and to the gym.  Started out with a brief warm-up on the elliptical, then did 15 minutes of rowing (step #1 on beginning workouts at Rowing Workouts), then finished with 20 minutes of more elliptical.  Feel pretty good (not about my fitness, just the fact that I was able to get out of bed!).

On another note, this week has already started off hellish and will continue to get worse as the week closes out.  The holidays are stressful enough working a low-responsibility, minimal pressure job with shopping and parties and baking.  Add to that hospital’s unloading their patients into the nursing homes, doctors on vacation, and unrealistic order volume (Quote RN: “I can’t chance the patient is going to miss their Oxycontin for the next 2 weeks because the MD won’t be around to order it!!!  I don’t care that it’s 28 days too soon!!!) and you have yourself the equivalent to the pharmacy tsunami.  No wonder I hate dislike the holidays so much.  It’s a giant cluster-you-know-what since Thanksgiving and then to top up this wonderful ice-cream sundae with a cherry, you have an unrealistic pressure and stress for the days leading up to the holiday!  And don’t get me started on the week after!  It’s even worse.  The BF asked me today why it’s everyone’s problem when you have to clarify medications, or orders are missing, when the MD is like, “See ya! Happy Holidays mother-effer!  Don’t fax or call me ‘cause, I AIN’T ANSWERIN’!” So true…

Wow that was a vent.  Off to get ready for work and then day off tomorrow to recharge and finish all the crap I have to do for the err…holiday.

Been awhile…

It’s been awhile but I think it’s time to get back to the good ol’ Tumblr.

I’ve been pretty busy with many things, but here’s a little recap of November that maybe one day I will elaborate on.  For now I find comfort in bullet points.

  • I’ve been up and down in terms of those 5 pounds.  Up 3, down 2, up 2, down 1.  It’s pretty frustrating, but after the holidays it’s go time. NOTE: Volleyball league sign up in progress (yay!).
  • My identity got stolen.  In order not to go into an all out rage, let’s just say my credit is okay and the government is SLOW to produce my employment record.  Let’s hope its all set and I don’t need a lawyer to settle this crap.
  • Christmas shopping is like pulling teeth this year.  I have no motivation to spend money (except on myself…see: splurge on FCUK at Marshall’s this weekend, oops!).
  • The College filled the position I was interviewing for, which I was not that disappointed about, except they emailed me the bad news in ERROR (we are supposed to be professional, no?) and failed to apologize/notice their error.  I’m pretty sure that I would throw the soap at them from aisle 5 if they were a retail pharmacist for that one.  Such is life - onto the next.
  • Started reading the Hunger Games after seeing the preview before Breaking Dawn and I have to say, it’s been hard to put down.  Why can’t adult books carry a story like a YA book.  It’s just the kind of simple, easy read I need to zone out for awhile.  Kind of nice.

Shimmer on,

Volleyball Mommas

Last Monday I had the privilege to coach the Mom volleyball team for my co-worker.  We had such a good time and it was great to get a chance to be in a gym again.  Is that strange?  I thought that I would never want to go back to high school again and would want to shut it away in the past and never go back.  Well, for the most part I think that is true, but I do sincerely miss playing volleyball.

One of the Moms said she would email me about joining her league at the YMCA come January.  I hope that I will be able to do it.  It is so much fun (and counts for getting my butt up and exercising!).  I also looked into some leagues, but they are kind of far away and I would definitely be the loner girl looking for a team.  Maybe this is what I need?  Either way, I have to get myself out on the floor.  It was a blast!

Who won?  The Moms of course!  We had a great game and some pitch hitters to help but they did a great job only having practiced ONCE.  Coaching record:  1-0!

It’s been awhile and I have no excuse

I know it has been awhile with no posts and there really is no good excuse.  I have been sleeping late, eating a lot of awful food (thank you Halloween with no trick-or-treaters, thank you CL&P for turning off our power), and doing a whole lot of nothing.

Well, there is no day like the present my friends.  Let’s look at my goals again to rekindle my motivation:

GOAL #1:  Pass the Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy Exam (November 4th, UPDATE: November 7): ACCOMPLISHED!  Yes I passed and I can add “CGP” to the end of my name!

GOAL #2: Stop shopping and start saving more money (December 31st): I actually have stayed away from shopping for quite awhile (count: 1 week).  I did splurge a little the day of my CGP exam on some French Connection goodies and Rock & Republic make-up BUT I have been waiting for them to go on sale on Hautelook and I haven’t been on the site to buy anything since.

GOAL #3: Get your ass up and exercise and loose those 5 pounds you put on since the wedding (December 31st):  Eeek.  I haven’t exercised in a long time.  I will need to get back on the wagon and GET UP AND RUN.  I also haven’t been logging on MFP but I started on Monday again so hopefully I can get my self back on track.  Week 2 of C25k is in progress…we’ll see if I can get back to it.

In other news, I was really pissed that I had to work Thanksgiving AGAIN this year until one of my co-workers said she really needed the money and offered to work it for me.  HOT DAMN!  Of course I don’t want to work it.  I would rather be eating turkey and stuffing thank you.  Now I don’t have to work a winter holiday this year!  I also know that when the college calls me and tells me I got the teaching position, I won’t have to work a holiday again!  Or nights!  Or weekends!  Until then…

Out of the cold…

The past 4 days I have been in the cold due to no power after the winter storm (yes, winter storm) on October 29th.  It was by far one of the worst experiences although it could have been MUCH worse if we didn’t have a wood stove (p.s. my parents are amazing for giving one to us last year).

Coming up from the rubble there is so much to do and not much of vacation left.  What a bummer.  I am almost done with my modules for my test next Wednesday (which is a relief because I was seriously concerned I would never finish!).  I know that if we had power, I probably would have stayed in Tree Hill wondering when Peyton would get off her “I’m a victim of everything” wagon.  Guess I am not the only one…

Seyton?

Later,

Quick update on my goals…

I just wanted to post something about my progress toward my goals because I need a get-down-to-it reminder.

GOAL #1:  Pass the Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy Exam (November 4th, UPDATE: November 7): I am a little past halfway with my modules and with next week me being on VACATION (trying to hold back my excitement), I will be able to bang out those modules and get to the test on Monday.  Modules left: 4 and 11-20.

GOAL #2: Stop shopping and start saving more money (December 31st): Oops.  I just can’t stay off Hautelook.  Bought a pair of boots and some makeup stuff.  HAVE been bringing my own coffee to work and using coupons/buying things on sale when grocery shopping.  Need to try to keep track of this so I can see the hard numbers.

GOAL #3: Get your ass up and exercise and loose those 5 pounds you put on since the wedding (December 31st):  1.8lbs lost per the Wii, successfully logged into MFP for almost a week now AND have been exercising (week 2 is a doozy).

Got to go to work now and hopefully get out when I am supposed to (not 45 or 1hr late like the past nights this week).

C25k: Week 1

I started to walk/run again this week and wanted to post my weekly (although updated daily) progress.

DAY 1: Got up, got dressed, put on my new Nike+ Lunarelite2 (see: photo, problem with shopping too much) for my overpronation and hit the treadmill.  I was so tired by the end of the workou that I thought I was going to be sick.  Which is RIDICULOUS because I have gotten to week 3 and 4 with no problem in the past.  I hate that I let myself get so out of shape! Anyway, finished Day 1 and was looking forward to a day of rest/walking outside if the weather holds up.

Nike+ Lunarelite2 on Zappos.com

DAY 2: Rain, rain, go away!  No walking today which is fine since I am really sore.  Like really sore.  Went food shopping with the BF so I walked a little and ran to the car since it was pouring.  Maybe tomorrow?

DAY 3: No run this morning.  Had a hard time getting up even though the weather was better and walk COULD have been arranged outside.  Tumblr’d instead and studied a bit more for my exam.  WILL GET UP TOMORROW AND RUN.

DAY 4: I got up and RAN (well, jog/walk)!  Day 2 of Week 1 complete.  I felt a lot better running this time.  It’s helpful to kind of zone out and not think about how tired you are.  I was doing punches when I was walking and reviewing my volleyball moves for later this month (see post on my volleyball ventures!).  I feel good, sweaty, and thirsty.  Now time to start my day!

DAYS 5/6: (Study/party day) Could have gotten up early for a morning walk on both days.  Well, DAY 4 included getting home at midnight so I was a very tired lady.  DAY 6 was post-party day at the BF’s family’s house, so I was up at 6:15am and drove an hour home.  (Read: Excuses, excuses…) Will try to track food on myfitnesspal, although I am not sure Italian wedding cake (errr…2 pieces) would be a crowing achievement.  Must exercise tomorrow.

DAY 7: Got up and finished Week 1!  Logged exercise into MFP, now a bit of studying and getting ready for another day at work.  Onto Week 2!

FOOD JOURNAL 10.21.11
One of my co-workers introduced me to MyFitnessPal today and I think it just saved my life.  I have been trying to find a website/phone app to help journal my food and my exercise, etc. and have never been able to stick to submitting to them.  This site is AWESOME: it is simple enough that you actually want to contribute to it and it’s easy to use AND there is a database of like a gagillion foods so it makes it really simple to add items (it also has bar code scanning for foods with UPCs!).  Love it.  Just wish it directly linked to Tumblr (it does to Twitter and Facebook only).
